September 2011: Windsor High School and Sixth Form in Halesowen, has been awarded the British Council's prestigious International School Award (2011-14) in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, such as through links with partner schools overseas. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council's work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens.
Windsor's international work includes a Science project on Sustainability with our link school in Chennai, India, real time conversations in French with our link Collège in Paris and working with our partner schools in South Korea to share and celebrate our different cultures.
John Rolfe from the British Council, said "Many congratulations to all the schools across the UK who have been successful in gaining the International School Award. We're very grateful to all the schools for their excellent commitment to the enriching, creative and innovative international dimensions of teaching and learning. Their inspirational work is vital preparation for all our young people, helping them to better understand their place in the world and supporting the development of their skills in an increasingly global economy."
On hearing the news that Windsor High School and Sixth Form had received the award, Sue Rogers, Deputy Head said: "We are delighted to receive this highly acclaimed award for the second time. Our students are the global citizens of tomorrow so it is important for them to develop an international perspective through the curriculum.
Our students really enjoy sharing ideas and exchanging views with students from different countries and we are delighted to have partnerships in eleven countries across the World."
