Windsor High School was designated a specialist Sports College in 2002 and became a hub-site
for a school sports partnership in 2003. In 2006 due to sustained high performance both within
Physical Education and Whole School the school was rated as a high performing specialist school,
taking on the additional specialisms of Science (sister subject to PE) and Applied Learning.
As a Sports College we aim to equip our students with the necessary skills and key abilities to become healthy,
responsible citizens of the school and the local community. We have significantly increased the number of
opportunities for students both within and outside the curriculum:
- Short Course GCSE PE through Core PE in Year 11.
- Leadership opportunities including accreditation in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4.
- BTEC and GCSE qualifications.
- Access to local sports facilities.
- Links with local clubs.
- Mentoring programme for elite athletes.
- Coaching courses for pupils.
Our integrated, incremental leadership programme which recognises prior involvement at Key Stage 2 has
gained local, regional and national recognition. Through this we have good links with the local community;
our students deliver sessions in local primary schools; assist in the organisation and running of the cluster
tournaments for the School Sports Partnership and volunteer in local clubs through the Step Into Sport programme.
The work of the department has been show cased at local; regional and national level. Staff in the department
have been involved in:
- The QCA PESS investigation (2004- 2006) as part of the PESSCL strategy.
- Local authority PE strategy group leading at Black Country Schools PE conference in 2008.
- Working group shaping the Step Into Sport Programme with the Youth Sport Trust.
- Work with the Golf Foundation writing Schemes of Work for golf delivery within schools.
- Lead Practitioner Status for Dance working with the YST in developing standards and
opportunities in Dance within the local area.

before school, during lunchtime and after school, we run 57 representative teams competing locally,
regionally and at a national level in a range of activities. The school has a very successful house system
an integral part of which are the house sports competitions which run on a weekly basis providing inter
school competition.
