Our aim
We are a vigorous and dynamic team with an innovative approach to teaching and learning. We are committed to providing a first class education service for all pupils helping them succeed. Our focus is simple and clear. We are aiming to generate high ATTAINMENT first and foremost. This in turn maximises every child's potential. To enable this to occur we encourage pupils to work with PURPOSE and RESPECT for all.
In 2011 Ofsted commended our teaching of Business Studies describing our teachers as having good subject knowledge and "highly successful in engaging students' interest and involvement through a wide range of relevant and well-designed tasks and activities, making excellent and frequent use of topical, real-life examples to help students learn".
What we offer
Following a BTEC programme is an exciting way to study. It gives you the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that you will need in the world of work. BTECs are very different from GCSEs; a BTEC puts you in charge of your own learning. At Level 2, we offer the BTEC Extended Certificate (equivalent to 2 GCSEs).
If you decide to join our Sixth Form you could chose from a range of courses including, BTEC National Award (equivalent to 2 A-Levels) or the BTEC National Certificate (equivalent to 4 A Levels). Alternatively you may wish to study AQA A Level Business.
"Business is a highly popular choice of subject. The proportion of students choosing business at Key Stage 4 and in the sixth form is well above the national average." Ofsted 2011.
Extra curriculum
We believe enterprise and creativity are at the centre of all human endeavours. These critical skills enable our pupils to thrive in an ever demanding global economy.
In Business Studies, students will have the opportunity to gain a certificate in Young Enterprise. This is where you set up a real company and compete with other schools across the world. In the past 2 years we have be very successful, winning over 15 awards.
It is also extremely important for our students to see how the real world of business operates, therefore a range of opportunities will be offered to them e.g. visits to other countries, factories, football clubs, fashion industry, marketing ventures and many more.
Ofsted commended us for this in 2011 saying "Outstanding provision throughout the school for economics and business understanding, personal finance and enterprise capability. The provision is structured and co-ordinated very well into a broad, diverse and coherent programme"
Leadership
Within the Business Department, students will be given the opportunity to become Business Advisors. This high profile position will allow students to have a voice within the department and assist and run enterprise activities within the school, as well as connecting with high profile companies – there may even be a business lunch provided!
