Business Studies and Retail are part of a Faculty together with ICT. We are a vigorous and dynamic
team with an innovative approach to teaching and learning. We are committed to providing a first class education
service for all pupils helping them succeed. The teachers are committed and give many hours over and above the call
of duty and this benefits pupils significantly. Our focus is simple and clear. We are aiming to generate high
ATTAINMENT first and foremost. This in turn maximises every child's life chances. To enable this to occur we
encourage pupils to work with PURPOSE and RESPECT for all.
We believe enterprise and creativity are at the centre of all human endeavours. These critical skills enable our pupils
to thrive in an ever demanding global economy. We aim to provide a wide range of extended opportunities. These will
occur during and out of the normal school day. We wish to support each pupil so that they develop their full range of
skills and talents. We pride ourselves on the quality of learning and the effectiveness of its teaching. The teaching
taff is the key to success and committed to helping pupils succeed.
We offer the GCSE Single Award Business, BTEC Business and BTEC Retail. Pupils are encouraged to start their own
business, kick-start a career or embrace continual professional development.
They examine the way businesses are managed in the Business Studies courses and how the retail industry operates with
a particular interest in marketing and customer service for BTEC courses.
As all three courses are concerned with the community, up-to-date research has to be undertaken to supplement the material already published which gives an exciting and fresh approach to studying. The often-used Internet is a valuable and accessible source of comment, explanation and evidence for all of the disciplines; also, we employ television documentaries to illustrate complex business and retail problems, and vitally bring the real world directly into the classroom.
We always encourage participation, curiosity and enquiry. We also offer students the opportunities to set up and run a mini-enterprise or set up a real company through Young Enterprise. It is important for our students to see how the real world of business operates therefore a range of opportunities will be offered to them e.g. visits to factories, football clubs, fashion industry, marketing ventures and many more.
Gifted students will be challenged through Leadership and enterprise opportunities. Students will operate their own
business as part of a team and export their products to schools. This will help to bring Business Studies and Retail
to life and provide those involved with a real practical experience. We offer all students an opportunity to participate
in an Industry day. This programme meets the needs of the work-related learning framework for key stage four. The
activity gives students the opportunity to experience working for a real company for a day in various different job
roles.
We are an exciting team to work with. We are looking for an innovative and inspirational teacher who will contribute
and develop ideas to raise standards further.
