Aims:
At Windsor Sixth form the Psychology department aims to give its students a broad introduction to the scope and nature of Psychology as a Science. We deliver up to date and relevant content whilst at the same time retaining the popular features of Psychology.
The Social Sciences faculty also provides a supportive learning environment that stimulates learning and motivates all.
Rationale and course content:
The emphasis is on applying knowledge and understanding rather than just acquiring knowledge. This means students are able to develop transferable skills such as analysis, evaluation and critical thinking. All of these skills help to prepare our students for their future beyond Windsor Sixth Form.
In unit one students’ get to grips with the principles of Psychology including taking a closer look at Memory and Attachment Theory. Unit two then builds on these principles and students examine topics including Stress and Social Influence.
At A2 Psychology becomes even more fascinating as students are able to build on their success at AS. They will study topics such as Eating Behaviour and Aggression in Unit Three and Schizophrenia and Addiction in Unit four.
Psychology is an examination based subject and students sit four examinations each worth 25% of their overall A Level grade.
