Application Tips

Curriculum Vitae

You will need a CV when applying for any job. It informs prospective employers of your previous education, employment history and skills. Here's a link to the Prospects website which provides a range of information on writing an outstanding CV, including a number of sample CV’s: Prospects

Personal Statement

When applying for College or University courses a Personal Statement is a standard requirement. It is your opportunity to tell the organisation about why you want to study the courses you are applying for, what skills you have that would aid in your studies and any other information about yourself that you feel is relevant.

For help with writing your Personal Statement for College or Sixth Form applications visit
My Progress File (ask your tutor for login information if you are unsure). For help writing a Personal Statement for your UCAS application visit: Studential to see some examples.

Covering Letter

Ideally your CV should be accompanied by a Covering Letter which explains why you are applying for the job and allows you to write about your experiences in the context of the position you are applying for. For help writing a Covering Letter visit: Prospects
