Science Programme

Windsor High School and Sixth Form has a strong specialism in science with some outstanding teaching and learning going on in both practical and academic fields across all science subjects.

We are proud to host some very specialist development opportunities in science during 2012 and keen to enhance our links and opportunities to share best practice. Our ASTs are dynamic and engaging and can lead bespoke development activities for you in school. Our proposed range of sessions this year includes:

For Teachers

  • Outstanding Teaching & Learning practice in science – utilising the outstanding skills of our ASTs this programme will also draw upon TEEP techniques to give you new and practical ideas that will be invigorating and practical to use immediately.
  • Inspiring experiments (for KS3 and KS4) – using little more than Kithen utensils and items from your nearest pound shop, this session will give you practical, fun and achievable ideas.

For Science Middle Leaders

We are also exploring the opportunity to offer a Middle Leadership Development Programme specifically for science middle leaders. This programme will be built around the National College MLDP programme but will have a variety of specific exemplary science inputs allowing you to grow in your leadership within the science faculty and network with like minded peers. Since the MLDP programme can accrue 30 Masters points, talk to us about accessing the TDA’s new Professional Development Scholarship funding so that we can help you to access external funding for this this opportunity.

For Technicians

Science Technicians have impact on A-level performance – well prepared and set-up experiments can bring to life scientific concepts and processes – from the most simple to the complex. Working in partnership with the Science Learning Centre at Keele we are hosting a series of three programmes for technicians in A-level subjects.

  • Technicians A-Level Biology on 13th June 2012
  • Technicians A-Level Physics on 18th June 2012
  • Technicians A-Level Chemistry on 12th July 2012

For staff in KS 3,4 and 5 we have a session on "Handling and Exploring Smart Materials". This session will look at some of the newer materials available to science departments and provide some hands on opportunities to explore how smart materials can add to your technician’s repertoire.

For more information about any of these programmes, please contact Alison Halford, Windsor Training Manager.
